Stoke face a Newcastle team not enjoying the best of fortunes at the moment in the Premiership..That said, for the FA Cup 3rd Round BBC televised match at The Britannia Stadium on Sunday evening they are able to welcome back from injury the not inconsiderable talent of England striker Michael Owen.
At the moment it is not clear whether or not Joey Barton - now released on bail following an alleged assault in Liverpool over the holiday period - will feature.
The match will provide a yardstick for Stoke...how big the gulf to be bridged is between where we are now and mid table in the Premiership,always assuming, of course, we can manage to clear the promotion hurdle this time round!
